To champion the progress of children with disabilities, leaders must be unwavering in their commitment to to meeting the developmental and academic outcomes of children with disabilities, ensuring a shared vision that promotes collaboration and leads to strategic, impactful actions.
Indicators of Success
- Establish a vision of belonging. Leaders collaborate with professionals to establish an instructional vision inclusive of high-leverage practices, DEC Recommended Practices, and evidence-based practices and to increase student success. Leaders communicate, mobilize support, and drive teams forward through action that communicates a feasible, sustainable, and productive vision of success for children with disabilities.
- Support progress. Use data to prioritize goals and develop strategies that support progress toward the vision of belonging, ensuring adherence to IDEA.
- Build commitment. Use multiple media and venues, in both organizational and community contexts, to commit the organization to an ambitious agenda with priority goals for the success of children with disabilities.
- Enlist allies. Identify and enlist willing allies as lead collaborators to inform and advance the provision of a free appropriate education in various contexts.
- Address resistance. Leverage positional power when necessary to address resistance to the organization's strategies for promoting progress for children with disabilities.
