The Lead IDEA Capacity Assessments help leaders examine their readiness to effectively implement the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) at the individual and school or early intervention (EI) program level. These research-informed tools are designed to support reflection and action, so school and EI program leaders can build stronger, more effective systems where children with disabilities belong, learn, and thrive.
All Lead IDEA capacity assessments are organized around six core IDEA Leadership Essentials. These Essentials are grounded in data and evidence and clarify the critical role leaders play in creating an ecosystem that drives progress for children with disabilities and their families:
Self-Assessments
These tools are designed to support principals/assistant principals and EI program administrators in reflecting on their own knowledge and practices related to the effective implementation of IDEA within the systems they lead and oversee.
Organizational Assessments
This tool is designed to support PreK-12 school administrators and EI program administrators in examining the systems, structures, conditions, and practices that shape how children with disabilities are supported.
