Module: Understanding Disability Under IDEA: An Introduction to the 13 Categories
This course, co-developed with the PROGRESS Center, provides a comprehensive overview of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and its 13 recognized disability categories, emphasizing their definitions, impacts, and strategies for support. IDEA is a federal law that ensures students who need extra support, due to the impact of their disability on their learning, can get the services that help them learn and grow. Whether you're a school leader, parent, educator, or someone supporting students with disabilities, this module will help you better understand how IDEA defines and supports children with disabilities in schools.
Through interactive activities, knowledge checks, and curated resources, participants will build a foundational understanding of how disability categories guide individualized programming for students with disabilities.
