Learning Block 2: You’re at the Table—Now What? Understanding the Role of the LEA Representative in IEP Meetings

This learning block dives into the critical role of the LEA representative – often the linchpin in effective implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

In this learning block geared for principals, participants will explore the legal foundations of the LEA representative role, examine current practices for preparing LEA representatives, and uncover common challenges that hinder effective participation. Through guided reflection and practical tools, participants will leave with actionable strategies to ensure every representative is well-informed, well-prepared, and empowered to make sound decisions that support students and families and adhere to IDEA requirements.

• Reflect on current leadership practices related to participation in IEP meetings.
• Identify common leadership challenges and decision‑making pitfalls during IEP meetings.
