Module: FAPE, LRE, and Natural Environments: What Birth – Grade 12 Leaders Need to Know
This module explores three core legal principles under Part B and Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA): Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE), Least Restrictive Environment (LRE), and Natural Environments. Through real-world examples and interactive activities, it explores how these principles shape effective special education and related services for infants, toddlers, children, and youth with disabilities. The module also emphasizes the critical role of leaders in fostering environments where infants, toddlers, children, and youth with disabilities can learn and thrive, easing transitions between IDEA Part C and Part B. This course sets the stage for deeper learning in subsequent modules focused on leadership action planning and system development.
This module is part of a series covering core principles of IDEA from a leadership perspective.
